Why Shop At Costco For A Party?
Costco sells in bulk, making it the perfect spot to shop for a graduation party, baby shower, holiday gathering, or any other event you are hosting. It may be difficult for your household to eat large amounts of appetizers and desserts before they expire, but if you have a larger group, it’s easy.
Costco also has great prices. You can save some serious cash by shopping in bulk. This retailer is perfect if you are trying to throw a party on a budget.
How to Shop For The Best Frozen Appetizers From Costco
There are several ways to shop at Costco. You can shop in person at your local warehouse or from the comfort of your home via Costco.com.
Costco offers two ways to shop online. They offer two-day shipping, which arrives via FedEx or UPS, or same-day delivery via Instacart. It’s not advertised, but the prices are slightly higher than what you would pay in-store. The two-day shipping option has only a slight markup or $1-2 on items.
As we’ve discussed in our online grocery shopping comparison, Instacart tacks on many fees and has much higher markups. We don’t recommend shopping this way.
Does Costco Have Hors D’Oeuvres?
Yes! Costco has an abundance of appetizers and hors d’oeuvres that are perfect for any gathering.
If you are in the store, check the frozen food and refrigerated sections for options to suit your taste.
Classic Frozen Appetizers From Costco
Puff Pastry Mini Hot Dogs —You want to ensure these mini hot dogs have a little time to rest before serving. The inside gets hot! If you have hearty eaters, plan on five per person. Serve with spicy brown mustard and ketchup. Kids love these!
Mozzarella Sticks — These mozzarella sticks are not quite as good as those from your favorite pizzeria, but they are pretty close. Watch the cooking time. The cheese oozes out if they go too long. A generous side of marina sauce is the perfect accompaniment. We love Rao’s brand (also available at Costco).
Vegetable Spring Rolls — If you are looking for a great vegetarian frozen appetizer from Costco, look no further. These vegetable spring rolls are the perfect starter. Heat them in the air fryer or oven and serve with the dipping sauce they come with for a great treat that vegetarians and carnivores will love.
Spanikopita — Another great vegetarian option. These mini pieces of phyllo dough stuffed with spinach are a crowd-pleaser. No sauce is required.
Ling Ling Potstickers — We cook these on repeat in my house. They are simple, hearty, and the best appetizer. Take the extra step and brown the dumplings; it’s well worth it, especially if you aren’t eating them right away. Browning keeps them crisp. Look around for the included sauce packets for serving. Sometimes they are hidden at the bottom of the package.
Mini Wontons — Not to be confused with potstickers, these CJ Bibigo Mini Wontons are similar but smaller. The filling consists of chicken and cilantro, which provide a perfect flavor. Cook these in the air fryer for a healthy, crunchy treat.
Five Cheese Bread — This appetizer from Detroit Motor City may not be on your radar, but it should. Cheesy bread is a simple and filling appetizer. The pieces are a bit large to classify as an appetizer, but they are good to go with a few cuts from a pizza cutter. Serve with marinara sauce to dip.
Costco Frozen Mexican Appetizers
El Monterey Chicken and Cheese Taquitos — Ready in minutes, this Mexican appetizer from the frozen food section is perfect for your next fiesta. These taquitos contain real chicken and cheese and are best served with sour cream, guacamole, or ranch.
Jose Ole Beef Mini Tacos — These mini tacos are great, but you must cook them in the oven for the best results. They take a few extra minutes, but you are rewarded with crunchy tacos, sure to please. For dipping, place them on a platter with sour cream, salsa, or guacamole.
BONUS – Costco Appetizer Trays
Signature Shrimp Platter — This appetizer tray contains everything you need, shrimp, cocktail sauce, and lemons. You just provide the people, and at about $10 a pound, you can invite a bunch. For planning purposes, give about three shrimp per person.
Vegetable Platter With Ranch Dressing — Also known as crudite, this platter is a crowd-pleasing option for any event. The contents may vary, but most include baby carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, snap peas, and bell peppers. The actual weights vary, but most are approximately four pounds. Most people will eat about 7-8 pieces, roughly a quarter pound. Four pounds should feed 16 people.
